In the given diagram, the water is sealed in glass tubes, i.e., not directly exposed to the atmosphere. Water in the beaker is however exposed to the atmosphere. On one glass tube, a plant is kept and the another arm of the glass tube is sealed. There is no way other than transpiration through the plant, that the glass tubes can lose water. The movement of a meniscus or air bubble in the lower glass tube can give a measure of the rate of transpiration from the plant. Thus, the correct answer is option A.
