Question

The extremities of a diameter of a circle are (1,2) and (3,4). Find its equation. Also determine the equations of tangents which are parallel to this diameter.

Open in App
Solution

The slope of given line is 1 and circle on this line as diameter is
x2+y24x6y+11=0 or (2,3),2.
Any line parallel to given diameter is y=x+c or xy+c=0. The condition of tangency p=r gives c=3,1.
xy+3=0 and xy1=0 are tangents.
