Question

The figure ABCD is a quadrilateral in which AB is parallel and equal to CD and BC is parallel and equal to AD. Its area is

  1. 72 cm2

  2.  36 cm2

  3. 24 cm2

  4. 64 cm2

Solution

The correct option is B

 36 cm2

It is clear from the figure that quadrilateral ABCD is a parallelogram. The diagonal AC of the given parallelogram ABCD divides it into two triangles of equal areas.
Area of the ΔABC=12×Base×Height
=12×12×3=18cm2
Area of the parallelogram ABCD=2×Area of ΔABC
                                                               =2×18 =36 cm2
