Solution

Given Experimental setup:

  1. The given figure demonstrates the vital function of osmosis through a semi-permeable membrane, like an egg membrane or cellophane paper.
  2. The sugar solution is put in a funnel and is kept in the beaker filled with water with a semi-permeable membrane on the base.
  3. The level of sugar in the flask and the level of water in the beaker is noted before the experiment.
  4. After a few hours, the level of sugar solution is monitored again and is found that the level of sugar has risen but there is no change in the level of water.
  5. This happened because of the phenomenon of osmosis.

Control experiment

  1. A control experiment is a scientific experiment in which there is a controlled environment by making all variables constant.
  2. In such an experiment, there is also an established standard experiment for comparison to the experiment component.

Control experiment for the given experiment:

  1. For this experiment, one can use water solution as a control in another thistle funnel.
  2. Place this funnel in another water-filled beaker.
  3. As a control, fill another thistle funnel with plain water and halt it in another water-filled beaker.
  4. Mark the level on its stem once more.
  5. The given experiment can be compared with this control experiment.
