The figure given shows two identical rectangles, each measuring 8 cm by 4 cm, overlapping one another. The unshaded area is 14 of each rectangle. Find the area of the shaded part of the figure.

The correct option is D 48 cm2
The area of rectangle
= Length x Breadth
= 8 x 4 = 32 cm2

Area of unshaded part
= 14 area of a rectangle
= 32÷4
= 8 cm2

So, the area of shaded part
= 2 x area of one rectangle - 2 x area of unshaded part

= 2 x 32 - 2 x 8
= 64 - 16
= 48 cm2
