The area of rectangle
= Length x Breadth
= 8 x 4 = 32 $c{m}^2$

Area of unshaded part
= $\frac{1}{4}areaofarectangle$
= $32÷4$
= 8 $c{m}^2$

So, the area of shaded part
= 2 x area of one rectangle - 2 x area of unshaded part

= 2 x 32 - 2 x 8
= 64 - 16
= 48 $c{m}^2$
