The correct option is C In the first step, acetylation of amine group takes place. This step is also called protection of −NH2 group because −NH2 is highly activating for elctrophilic aromatic substitution and all the ortho/para(three) positions are substituted by coming electrophile. But after acetylation, its lone pair is not so much involved with the benzene ring and hence activating nature of −NH2decreases and only monosubstituted product is formed in the second step. In the third step, deprotection takes place and −NH2 group is regenerated.
