Q. A hydrocarbon Y decolorizes bromine water. On ozonolysis it gives 3-methyl butanal and formaldehyde. Give the name and formula of the compound with the respective ozonolysis reaction.

CH3CH(CH3)CH2CH = CH2 + O3 CH3CH(CH3)CH2CHO + HCHO 4-methyl pent-1-ene 3- methyl butanal
Hence, in the above reaction shows that Hydrocarbon Y is 4-methylpent-1-ene , (formula = CH3CH(CH3)CH2CH=CH2) which on ozonolysis (O3) gives 3-methyl butanal ,CH3CH(CH3)CH2CHO and formaldehyde, HCHO.
