The first two lengths of an air column in a resonance column method to measure speed of sound in air were found to be 50 cm and 152 cm respectively. If the velocity of sound in the laboratory is 340 m/s . Find the frequency of the vibrating tuning fork and the end correction of the tube.

Given:
Length of first resonance (l1)=50 cm
Length of second resonance (l2)=152 cm

From formula of end correction (e),

e=l23l12

Substituting the given data,

e=1523×502=1 cm

Also, from resonance column method, we know that

λ=2(l2l1)

f=v2(l2l1)=3402(15250)×102167 Hz

Thus, option (d) is the correct answer.
