Solution

The correct option is B 40 cm
Given that,
Focal length of lens in air, fa=10 cm
Case I: When lens is in air.
1fa=(μgμa1)(1R11R2)....(i)
Case II: When lens is placed in water,
1fw=(μgμw1)(1R11R2)......(ii)
On dividing equation (i) with equation (ii).
fwfa=(321)⎜ ⎜ ⎜3243⎟ ⎟ ⎟1=(12)981
or, fwfa=(12)(18)=4
fw=4×fa=40 cm
Why this question ?Bottom line : When lens is immersed in water the focal length of lens increases as compared to air.
