Ponds are aquatic freshwater ecosystems and they consist of a still body of water, with no wave action. The main producers in pond or lake ecosystem are algae. Small fishes depend on algae for their food. Water and dissolved oxygen are essential abiotic factors for the survival of both algae and fish. The frog is also a part of the pond ecosystem which feeds on fish. Fishes are absent in desert, polar and grassland ecosystems.
