Solution

The correct option is C Median of height of trees in garden 2 = 8.6 ft
The given chart is

The given data set is (Garden 1):

9.2, 8.5, 8.8, 9.6, 10.5, 9.5

Let us arrange the data in ascending order. We get

8.5, 8.8, 9.2, 9.5, 9.6, 10.5

For a set with an even number of values, the median is the mean of the two middle values.

Median = 9.2+9.52

= 9.35

Median of the data (garden 1) = 9.35 ft

The given data set for (Garden 2):

9.5, 8.0, 10.2, 8.4, 8.6, 8.6

Let us arrange the data in ascending order. We get

8.0, 8.4, 8.6, 8.6, 9.5, 10.2

For a set with an even number of values, the median is the mean of the two middle values.

Median = 8.6+8.62

Median = 8.6

Hence, median of data (Garden 2) = 8.6 ft

The option "Median of height of trees in garden 1 = 9.0 ft" is incorrect, since the median of height of trees in garden 1 = 9.35 ft.

The option "Median of height of trees in garden 2 = 8.6 ft" is correct.

The option "Median of height of trees in both the garden are same" is incorrect, since, the median of the height of trees in both the garden are not same.

The last option "No inference can be made" is incorrect.
