Solution

Converting the series into exclusive form, we get:

Class Frequency(fi) Mid values (xi)

ui = xiAh

ui = xi29.510

(fiui)
5 - 14 6 9.5 -2 -12
15 - 24 11 19.5 -1 -11
25 - 34 21 29.5 = A 0 0
35 - 44 23 39.5 1 23
45 - 54 14 49.5 2 28
55 - 64 5 59.5 3 15
Total ∑(fi)=80 (fiui) = 43

Now,
A = 29.5, h = 10, ∑(fi) = 80, ∑(fiui) = 43

Therefore,
Mean = A + h × fiuifi

= 29.5 + 10 × 4380

= 29.5 + 5.375

= 34.875

Therefore, ¯x= 34.875.

Therefore, The average age of the patients is 34.87 years
