Question

The force between two alpha particles separated by a distance r is f.in order to have same force f the distance between singly ionized chlorine atoms separated by a distance of

1. 2r

2.4r

3.r/2

4.r/4

Solution

Charge on a alpha particle = 3.20×10-19 C
K(3.20×10-19)2/r2=F

Let the distance between the Chlorine atoms be R.
charge on a single ionized = 1.6×10-19 C
Therefore, the force = K(1.6×10-19)2/R2
=F/K=(3.20×10-19)2/r2
=4(1.6×10-19)2/r2=(1.6×10-19)2/R2
R= r/2.
