  1. The molecules in the substance always show attraction towards each other and due to this attraction, the molecules are bounded together. This force of attraction between the molecules is known as the intermolecular force of attraction.
  2. It is responsible for giving a definite shape to solids.
  3. The intermolecular force of attraction varies from material to material and due to this different substances have different properties, i.e., some are hard as rocks, some are in small crystals like sugar and others are present in powdered form.

Hence, the force of attraction between the particles of matter is called as intermolecular force of attraction.
