Question

The frequency y of a light wave is a function of its wavelength x. is the function relating the wavelength of light to its frequency linear or nonlinear?

Solution

We know, if rate of change of function is constant then function is linear.

From above table we can see,

As x decreases by 65, y increases by randomly. The rate of change is not constant. So function is nonlinear

Hence, the function relating the wavelength of light to its frequency is nonlinear function.
