Solution

The correct option is C 9ν
The frequency of the radiation emitted will be,

ΔE=hν νΔE

Also, En=13.6(Z2n2) eV

In Hydrogen atom, for the first Lyman series,

nf=1 ; ni=2 ; Z=1

ΔE=(ΔEfΔEi)=(ΔEiΔEf)

ΔE=13.6Z2[1(nf)21(ni)2]

ΔE=13.6×34 eV .....(1)

In Lithium atom, for the first Lyman series,

nf=1 ; ni=2 ; Z=3

ΔE=(ΔEfΔEi)=(ΔEiΔEf)

ΔE=13.6Z2[1(nf)21(ni)2]

ΔE=13.6×9×34 eV .....(2)

From (1) and (2) we get,

Frequency of the radiation emitted by Lithium atom will be 9 times frequency of the radiation emitted by hydrogen atom.
