Solution
Answer: (1) The Poles
Frigid Zone – Location
In the Southern Hemisphere, the frigid zone is the area located between the South Pole and Antarctic Circle.
In the Northern Hemisphere, the frigid zone is the area located between the North Pole and Arctic circle.
Frigid Zones – Why are they Cold?
Frigid Zones are areas that are very cold.
There is very little heat since the rays from the sun are slanting.
In this zone, the sun does not rise much above the horizon.
Three Different Zones of the Earth
Three different zones of the earth are,
Frigid Zone
Torrid Zone
Temperate Zone
Temperate Zone
The temperature in the Temperate zone is moderate.
In the Southern Hemisphere, the area bounded by the Antarctic Circle and the Tropic of Capricorn is called the temperate zone.
In the Northern Hemisphere, the area bounded by the Arctic Circle and the Tropic of Cancer is the temperate zone.
Torrid Zone
Torrid Zone is the area that receives maximum heat.
The mid-day sun is exactly overhead at least once a year on all latitudes in between the Tropic of Capricorn and the Tropic of Cancer.
Equator
On the globe, the imaginary circular line which divides it into two equal halves is called the equator. To locate places on earth, it is an important reference point.
The Southern half is known as the Southern Hemisphere, and the Northern half is called the Northern Hemisphere.
From the Equator to the poles, all the parallel circles are known as parallel latitudes.
The Equator is measured as 0-degree latitude and all the latitudes are measured in degrees.
South latitudes are the parallels located to the South of the Equator.
North latitudes are the parallels located to the North of the Equator.
Tropic of Cancer
The Tropic of cancer is one of the four important parallels of latitude.
It is located at twenty-three and a half degrees north, in the Northern Hemisphere.
