The skeletal muscles have a number of muscle bundles or fascicles within them. These fascicles are made up of numerous muscle fibres.

The muscle fibres constitute of myofibrils. These myofibrils are made up of the most basic unit known as sarcomere.

Sarcomere has actin and myosin filaments that slide past each other aiding in the contraction of muscles.
