Oxygen. This is a classic experiment to demonstrate that oxygen is produced during photosynthesis. The hydrilla plant, being green in colour, carries out photosynthesis and oxygen is produced as a byproduct. Initially, the inverted test tube is completely filled with water, as the gas starts getting produced, one can see it bubbling in the test tube. Later, a glowing splinter test can confirm that the gas is oxygen.
