Question

The gas having higher value of Vander Waal's constant "a" will be more compressible than the one having lower value of "a",provided Vander Waal's constant "b" is same for both the gases. If true enter 1 else 0.

Solution

The Vander waal's constant a represents the magnitude f attractive forces between the molecules. Gases such as SO2,NH3,H2SandCO2 have high values of a and are easily liquified. On the other hand, the gases N2,O2,H2andHehave lower values of a and are difficult to liquify.
Thus, the gas having higher value of Vander Waal's constant "a" will be more compressible than the one having lower value of "a",provided Vander Waal's constant "b" is same for both the gases.
