Dear Student
The general formula of alkyne is CnH2n-2. In this formula when n = 2 then it is acetylene, when n= 3 then it is propyne, when n= 4 it is butyne, when n= 5 it is pentyne, when n= 6 it is hexyne, when n= 7 it is heptyne and so on.
This formula tells us about the name of the alkyne and the property of the compound.
