NH3 has a lone pair of electrons on the central Nitrogen with 3 bonded hydrogens. Therefore hybridization is sp3. The lone pair takes up space and causes the molecule to adopt a non-planar geometry. The shape of a molecule is trigonal pyramidal.
The central Boron in BF3 has no lone pair and three bonded fluorines. Therefore hybridization is sp2. and shape is trigonal planar. It gets to be planar as this is the best geometry to keep the fluorines as far away from each other as possible. Hence the statement is false.
