The given figure depicts an eye defect :
i) Identify the defect
ii) Label part 1, 2
iii) What are the reasons for this defect ?

Solution

i) The given image depicts Astigmatism. It is a type of refractive error in which eye does not focus light evenly on the retina, and hence results in blurred vision or distorted vision.
ii) Part 2 is, Vitreous humor.
iii) Astigmatism is caused when shape of the cornea of the eye is improper or has an irregular curve which changes the way light passes and refracts on the retina.
iv) Vitreous humor helps in maintaining the shape of the eye ball. It is in contact with the retina and it's pressure helps holding the retina in place.
