Each Part: 1 Mark
(a) The aim of the experiment is to show transpiration.
(b) Transpiration is the loss of water in the form of water vapour from the aerial parts of the plant.
(c) The inner surface of the polythene bag demonstrates the presence of water droplets which proves that water is lost during transpiration.
(d) (i) The apparatus should not be kept in a very hot place as the water vapour will not be able to condense.
(ii) The polythene bag should be airtight to prevent the entry of water vapour from outside.
(e) Control Experiment: Put a known weight of calcium chloride (water-absorbing substance) inside the polythene bag in the above experiment. The gain in the weight of calcium chloride shows that water is lost from the leaves during transpiration.
