Solution

The correct option is B 45
The rational number 45 is same as 45.

Now consider the given rational numbers 12,45 and 78 and make their denominator same by taking the LCM of the denominators as follows:

LCM(2,5,8)=40

The given fractions now with denominator 40 can be written as:

1×202×20=20404×85×8=32407×58×5=3540

The ascending order of the rational numbers is:

3540,3240,204078,45,12.......(1)

The descending order of the rational numbers is:

2040,3240,354012,45,78.......(2)

From equations 1 and 2, we conclude that the middle rational number in both ascending and descending order is same that is 45.

Hence, the middle number is 45.
