Solution

The correct option is C Endoplasmic reticulum
Golgi complex is polarized and has a forming face and a maturing face. The forming or proximal face is on the outer side while the maturing or distal face is on the opposite side. It is believed that the smooth membranes of the endoplasmic reticulum bud off vesicles, which then become arranged on the forming face of the stack. It is also possible that lamellae of the endoplasmic reticulum may be converted into a Golgi lamellae by the loss of ribosomes. On the other side is the maturing or secreting face of the stack where the lamellae bud off secretory vesicles.
Beans and Kessel (1968) proposed the origin of Golgi from ER whereas Bouch (1965) reported that in brown algae nuclear envelope can also form ER.
