Developing countries face a major issue in supplying adequate food for the population. This is generally because the population is vast and the food produced may not be enough.

The Green Revolution is a phase of tremendous increase in food production, all around the world. Use of improved crop varieties, better agricultural practices and use of agrochemicals (fertilisers and pesticides) resulted in increase in the food supply.
The Green Revolution in India was initiated in the 1960's.With the help of plant breeding techniques, several high yielding and disease resistant varieties of wheat and rice were developed. This led to a dramatic increase in food production.
Norman Ernest Borlaugh is known as the Father of Green Revolution as he led the initiatives that led to an increase in agricultural production throughout the world.
