Solution

The correct option is A True
  1. The periodic table is designed in such a way that it can show variations in several atomic properties both along the period and down the group. This is why it is organized by atomic number rather than atomic mass.
  2. Electronegativity is the tendency of an atom to attract the shared pair of electrons towards itself.
  3. Electropositivity can be defined as the tendency of an atom to donate electrons and form positively charged cations.
  4. Electropositivity is the opposite of electronegativity and thus the name.
  5. Down the group, electronegativity decreases and so the electropositivity increases.
  6. As the name implies, the electronic configuration of group 1 atoms has only one electron in the valence shell. So it is very simple for an atom to gain energy and remove the valence electron, which is only one, to achieve the configuration of a noble gas.
  7. Group 2 elements have 2 electrons in their valence shell and so they will need more energy to remove those electrons as they are more.
  8. So compared to other groups the Group 1 and Group 2 elements are highly electropositive elements.

Hence the statement is true.
