Given that,

C+O2CO2(g) ; ΔH=349 kJ/mol ..........(i)
H2+12O2H2O(l) ; ΔH=241.8 kJ/mol ..........(ii)
CH4+2O2CO2(g)+2H2O(l) ; ΔH=906.7 kJ/mol .........(iii)
Now, we perform (i)+2×(ii)(iii), we get
C(s)+2H2(g)CH4(g)
Therefore, ΔH=349+2(241.8)+906.7 =74.1 kJ/mol

Hence, the heat of formation of CH4 is 74.1 kJ/mol.
