Question

The heating element of an heating appliance such as electric room heater is made of nichrome alloy while the connecting wire is insulated copper wire.Why ?

When electric current is passed through the heating appliance, the nichrome wire in the heating element being of very high resistance, a large amount of heat is produced in it and it becomes red hot. Anegligible heat is produced in the connecting wire because copper has very low resistance.
