Question

The height of a room is $\frac{1}{4}$ of the sum of length and breadth and the cost of painting its walls at the rate of $50$ Paise per $m^{2}$ is Rs. $400$ . Find the height.

Solution

Area of the four walls $= (R s .400 \div \frac{1}{2})$
$= 800 m^{2} .$
Now $b = \frac{1}{4} (l + b)$ or 2b
$= (l + b)$
$∴$ Area of 4 walls $2 b (l + b)$
$\Rightarrow 8 b^{2} = 800$
$∴ b = 10$
