The height of Mercury column in a simple barometer is h as the tube is inclined with the vertical at an angle a. Find the length L of the mercury column along the length of the tube.

The height of mercury in a glass tube will remain the same irrespective of the angle of tilt, but the length along the tube changes and it is $L$ .
Therefore, $c o s (a) = \frac{h}{L}$
$\Rightarrow L = \frac{h}{c o s (a)}$
