Solution

The correct option is D melatonin
Melatonin is a hormone produced by the pineal gland in darkness but decreases in bright light. Though the function of this gland is under research, however, it has been found promoting sleep. This influence of light on the secretion of hormone and its physiological effect leads to alternating sleep wake cycle. Hence, 24-hour day/night rhythm is maintained. Thus, it helps in maintaining the normal rhythm of sleep wake cycle.

Oxytocin acts on the smooth muscles and triggers strong uterine contraction during the child birth.

Thyroxine regulates the basal metabolic rate of our body.

Vasopressin increases the resorption of water from the glomerular filtrate thus concentrating the urine.
