Gonadotropic hormones are secreted by the anterior lobe of the pituitary gland. They are:

(a) Follicle-stimulating hormone (FSH) - It stimulates growth and development of ovarian follicles females and spermatogenesis (formation of sperms) in the male.

(b) Interstitial-cell stimulating hormone (ICSH). It activates the Leydig (interstitial) cells of the testes to secrete androgens. In females, it stimulates ovulation and maintains the corpus luteum. In females, it is termed luteinizing hormone (LH).
