MHPO4 contains two ions ; M2+ and HPO42-
Since both are divalent ions they form the 1:1compound MHPO4

But when we take Cl ion, it is monovalent.
So, the ions will be M2+ and Cl-.Thus, when M2+ combines with Cl-, the compound formed will be MCl2
