Green revolution was a period of agricultural advancement in which modern methods and technology were employed such as utilization of high yielding varieties, use of heavy machinery, pesticides and fertilizers for the enhancement of food production. In 1965, India under the aegis of Mrs Indira Gandhi, undertook major steps to improve the agricultural conditions. Thus from 1967 to 1978, with focus on rice and wheat, a spectacular rise in productivity was observed after applying scientific methods to grow these crops in parts of Haryana and Punjab.
