Solution

The correct option is B False

Breathing: Breathing or external respiration is a process in which oxygen is inhaled into the lungs through to the nose and mouth and immediately expelled carbon dioxide.

Explanation of test for carbon dioxide:

  • When carbon dioxide combines with calcium hydroxide solution, it forms a white calcium carbonate precipitate.
  • Limewater is a calcium hydroxide solution. Lime water becomes a milky white or cloudy white solution when CO2 is bubbled through it.

Checking the amount of carbon dioxide in exhaled and inhaled air:

  • When the same lime water is used for inhaled and exhaled air for the same volume, it has been found that exhaled air turns lime water milkier than inhaled air.
  • Thus. it has been found that in exhaled air carbon dioxide percent is more than in inhaled air.
  • It is important to note down that the percentage of exhaled air (4 %) contains more carbon dioxide than inhaled air(0.4%).

Thus, the given statement is false.
