Question

The Initial rate of Infiltration of a watershed is estimated as 5.5 cm/hr and the final capacity is 0.5 cm/hr, and the time constant is 0.4 hr1. The total depth (in cm) of infiltration over the 6 hr period is:
(Use Horton's equation)
  1. 14.37

Solution

The correct option is A 14.37
We know that,
f=fc+(f0fc)ekt

Given,
fc=5.5 cm/hr,fc=0.5 cm/hr,k=0.4 hr1

f=0.5+(5.50.5)e0.4t

f=0.5+5e0.4t

Infiltration depth=60fdt
=60(0.5+5e0.4t)dt

=[0.5t+(50.4)e0.4t]60

=(0.5×6)50.4e2.4+(50.4)e0

=14.37 cm
