Solution

The interparticle space is maximum in gases and minimum in solids.

  • The Force of attraction between particles of matter is called the intermolecular force of attraction.
  • As the distance between particles of matter (or intermolecular space) increases, the force of attraction between them decreases.
  • Based on physical properties, matter can be classified as solid, liquid and gas.
  • In solids the intermolecular space (or interparticle space) is negligible, in liquids the intermolecular space is more than that of the solid and in gases, the intermolecular space is the largest.

Therefore, the interparticle space is maximum in gases and minimum in solids.
