A 4-chlorotoluene
C 1-chloro-4-methylbenzene
When we look at benzene as the base chain, we can assign locants to methyl and chloride in alphabetical order of preferance.
Hence, its name will be 1-chloro-4-methylbenzene.
However, if we look at toluene as the base chain, then we find that the substituent is at 4th position and hence, 4-chlorotoluene is also a correct name.
