Solution

The correct option is C by the President in consultation with the Chief Justice of India, the four most senior judges of the court and the senior-most judge hailing from the high court of a prospective appointee
The judges of the supreme court are appointed by the President in consultation with Chief Justice of India and such other judges of the supreme court and the high court. For this process, Collegium system is adopted which consists of one chief justice of India and four senior-most judges of the supreme court. The CJI has to recommend judge after consultation with other four judges. If the candidate is of High Court the senior-most judges of the concerned high court are also consulted.
