Solution

The correct option is B False

Definition of electronic configuration.

The arrangement of electrons in various energy levels of an element is called electronic configuration.

The maximum number of electrons which can be accommodated in any shell of an atom is given by 2n2.

For first shell (K-shell) n = 1 The maximum number of electrons in first shell =2×12=2

For n = 2 ,the maximum number of electrons in second shell = 2×22 = 8

For n = 3, the maximum number of electrons in third shell = 2×32= 18

For n = 4, the maximum number of electrons in fourth shell = 2×42 =32.

Therefore the given statement is false.ie.,the K-shell of an atom can hold a maximum of 32 electrons.
