Solution

Plastic is defined as a long polymer chain that has compounds containing hydrogen and carbon in them and they are basically known as hydrocarbons. The single unit of the polymer chain is known as the monomer. When many monomer units are linked together, the polymer is formed. Plastics ate of two types depending upon their physical properties,

  • Thermoplastic- These types of plastics can be deformed easily upon heating and can also be bent easily. For example PVC, nylon, polythene, etc
  • Thermosetting plastic - These types of plastics cannot be softened again by heating once they are molded. For example Bakelite, melamine, etc

Thermosetting plastic is the kind of plastic, which can be softened and molded only once.
