Question

The kinetic energy of particle ………… on cooling (increases/decreases).

Open in App
Solution

According to the Kinetic molecular theory of matter “The particles are in a state of continuous motion and thus have kinetic energy associated with them”

Explanation of kinetic energy:

  • With the supply of heat energy to matter, the kinetic energy of particles increases, I,e; they start moving more vigorously.
  • But if the matter is cooled, heat energy is taken out of it, thus kinetic energy decreases.

Hence the kinetic energy of particles decreases on cooling.
