There is large gap between the orbits of the mars and the jupiter. A large number of small objects occupy this space. These objects are called as Asteroids and region is called as the asteroid belt.

On the other hand, comets do revolve around the sun but they are very far away compared to asteroids and are not present near the asteroid belt.
