The largest possible sphere is carved out from a solid cube of a side 40 cm. Find the surface area of the sphere.

The largest sphere will have a diameter equal to the side of the cube.

Diameter of sphere = Side of a cube

Radius of sphere, r=402=20 cm [ side of cube =40 cm (Given)]

Total surface area of the sphere =4πr2

=4π×202

=4×400π cm2

=1600π cm2
