By the 15th Century, the territory of the Delhi Sultanate was reduced to provinces and was in turmoil. During its last years, it was ruled by two dynasties- the Sayyids and the Lodhis. Ibrahim Lodhi was the last ruler of the Delhi Sultanate. He was defeated by Babur in 1526 CE at the Battle of Panipat. Thus ended the reign of the Delhi sultans, giving rise to the Mughal empire.
