Question

On which law the principle of method of mixtures is based?

Open in App
Solution

Specific heat of a material

The quantity of heat required to raise the temperature of one gram of a substance by one Celsius degree is known as its specific heat. Calorimeter is the device used to measure specific heat of a material.

  • Calorimetry is the study of heat transfer between materials of different temperatures or between the system and the surrounding.
  • The principle method of mixtures is also known as principle of calorimeter. This the law of conservation of heat energy, that states energy of interacting bodies or particles in a closed system remains constant.
  • This method is used to find specific heat of mixtures.

Law on which Principle of method of mixtures is based:

  • The principle of method of mixtures is based on law of conservation of energy.
  • When two substances of different temperatures are mixed together, the heat lost by the hot body is equal to the heat gained by cold body. Heat exchange occurs until the mixture attains equilibrium.
