The length and breadth of a rectangular piece of land are in the ratio 5:2. If the total cost of fencing it at Rs.12.5 per metre is Rs.25000, find its length and breadth.

₹12.5 is the cost of fencing = 1m
₹ 1 is the cost of fencing = 1/12.5 m
₹ 25000 is the cost of fencing= $\frac{25000}{12.5}m$
= 2000 m
Let the length and breadth be 5x and 2x
According to the problem,
2( 5x +2x) = 2000
=> 7x = 1000
=> x= $\frac{1000}{7}$
Therefore,
length = 5x = $\frac{5\times 1000}{7}=714.29m$ (approx)
breadth = 2x =$\frac{2\times 1000}{7}=285.71m$ (approx)
