Question

The length, breadth and height of a room are 5 m, 4 m and 3 m respectively. Find the cost of white washing the walls of the room and the ceiling at the rate of Rs. 7.50 per m2

Open in App
Solution

Given, length of the room, l=5 m
Breadth of the room, b=4 m
Height of the room, h=3 m

Area of the ceiling, A1=l×b
=5×4m2
=20m2

Area of the 2 walls, A2=2×l×h
=2×5×3
=30m2

Area of the other 2 walls, A3=2×b×h
=2×4×3
=24m2

Total area of the walls and the ceiling
=A1+A2+A3
=20+30+24
=74 m2

It is given that, the cost of white washing is Rs. 7.50 per m2

Thus, cost of white washing= Rs. 7.50×74
= Rs. 555

(OR)

Area of four walls room =2h(l+b)

=2×3 m(5 m+4 m)

=6 m×9 m

=54 cm2

Area of the ceiling ==l×b

=5 m×4 m

=20 m2

Now, Area of the four walls and area of ceiling

=54 cm2+20 m2

=74 m2

It is given that, the cost of white washing is Rs. 7.50 per m2.

cost of white washing =Rs. 7.50×74=Rs. 555
